New Tuberculosis Monograph - available now!

ERR to receive Impact Factor in 2019

The European Respiratory Review has been accepted for indexing in Clarivate Analytics' Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), meaning that it will receive its first Impact Factor in summer 2019. Articles from 2016 onwards will now be included in SCIE, as well as the Journal Citation Reports and Current Contents. Find out more here.

Cognitive behavioural therapy in COPD

The current issue of ERJ Open Research presents the findings of a randomised controlled trial of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It suggests that CBT delivered by respiratory nurses is a clinically effective and cost-effective treatment for anxiety in COPD patients. The article asks "What is a COPD exacerbation?" and looks at the current state of the art in exacerbations, with respect to definitions, associated pitfalls and challenges, and opportunities for improvement. Detection of mild cognitive impairment in OSA

Obstructive sleep apnoea increases the risk of mild cognitive impairment and dementia. A study in the November issue of the European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) characterises the ability of two screening tests, the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, to detect mild cognitive impairment in adults aged 55–85 years with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). The study concluded that the Montreal Cognitive Assessment performs best and can be used in the clinical setting (though neuropsychological referral is preferable where neurodegenerative processes are suspected). The First World Health Organization (WHO) Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health recently took place in Geneva (30 October–1 November).
