The ERS Clinical Practice Guideline on symptom management for adults with serious respiratory illness has now been published in the European Respiratory Journal. To accompany the guidelines, a new episode of Guidelines in Focus, in which clinical and patient experts discuss the content of the new guidelines, is now available on the ERS Respiratory Channel.

In the latest episode of Curbside Consult, Professor Sean Gaine and Dr Emer Kelly speak to Dr Marlies Wijsenbeek, of Erasmus MC (Rotterdam, the Netherlands). Dr Wijsenbeek gives her expert opinion on interstitial lung disease, including the case of an 82-year-old nonsmoking female patient with interstitial changes on her chest X-ray and mild restriction in her spirometry.

ERJ calls for papers on ageing and lung health

By 2030 it is estimated that 1.4 billion people will be over the age of 65. With chronic lung diseases (e.g. COPD, ILD, asthma, lung cancer, bronchiectasis) over-represented in older persons, this represents a challenge for the respiratory community and population as a whole. In response to this challenge, the European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) is calling for new submissions on ageing and lung health, offering fast-track peer review and publication for suitable papers. The deadline to submit is 30 June.

ERR pick of the week

This comprehensive meta-analysis demonstrated that licensed asthma biologics reduce exacerbations and hospitalisations, improve lung function, asthma control and quality of life, and limit the use of systemic corticosteroids, with a favourable safety profile. These effects are more prominent in patients with evidence of type 2 inflammation.
