Opioids for chronic breathlessness: no evidence of clinically relevant adverse effects

Physicians have been reluctant to prescribe opioids for patients with chronic breathlessness due to concerns about adverse respiratory effects. However, a study published in the November issue of the European Respiratory Journal has found no significant or clinically relevant evidence of respiratory adverse effects caused by opioids prescribed for chronic breathlessness.
