IRC launches Lung Facts advocacy resource at the ERS Congress
The International Respiratory Coalition (IRC), of which the European Respiratory Society (ERS) is a founding member, has launched a new web-based advocacy resource at the ERS International Congress in Barcelona. Lung Facts presents key epidemiological and economic data from major respiratory conditions across World Health Organization (WHO) Europe, and by each WHO Europe country. ERS publications awarded highest Journal Impact Factors to date
In the latest iteration of Clarivate Analytics' Journal Citation Reports, the European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) and European Respiratory Review (ERR) have been awarded with their highest Journal Impact Factors to date. ERJ is now ranked second in the respiratory system category, with an Impact Factor of 33.795. ERR's Impact Factor of 9.553 puts it seventh in the same category. ERJ Open Research received its first ever Impact factor: at 4.239 it is 29th in the respiratory system category. ERS congratulates the editors and their boards for this achievement, and thanks the authors, reviewers and readers for their continued support.

Barcelona library to curate lung health collection: suggest material
As the ERS International Congress heads to Barcelona in September, the city's Biblioteca Agustí Centelles (Agustí Central Library) will be curating a collection of books, songs and films on the theme of lung health and is asking the respiratory community to suggest materials that could be included. This initiative will form part of the activities supported by the ERS and European Lung Foundation's (ELF) Healthy Lungs for Life Campaign and public outreach programme. Submissions can be in any language but should not be academic materials. Make your suggestion by 30 June 2022.

ERS announces new Monograph Chief Editor appointment
The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is pleased to announce that Professor Peter Calverley has been appointed the new ERS Monograph Chief Editor. Professor Calverley, Emeritus Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Liverpool (UK), has been involved with the ERS for many years as a member of the Executive Committee, and the Science and Education Councils. He has also been President of the British Thoracic Society and the Editor of and contributor to a number of textbooks. Professor Calverley said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as the next Chief Editor of the ERS Monograph, one of the Society's best known publications. I hope to build on the work of my predecessors and ensure that the Monograph provides up to date, accessible and considered reviews of all aspects of respiratory medicine." He will commence his 4-year mandate in September 2022.

ERS urges humanitarian support for Ukraine and suspends Russian/Belarusian collaborations
As we witness, with great sadness, the continuation of the invasion of Ukraine, we call upon members and the wider respiratory community to support humanitarian aid initiatives for Ukrainian people wherever possible. Please consider supporting one or more of these active humanitarian aid initiatives: International Committee of the Red Cross; Ukraine Humanitarian Fund – United Nations; UNICEF – Emergency support to conflict in eastern Ukraine; UNHCR – The UN Refugee Agency; Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF); International Medical Corps. Alongside this call for support, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) is currently taking steps to suspend collaborations with Russian and Belarusian societies.

ERS announces new ERJ Chief Editor appointment
The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is pleased to announce that Professor James Chalmers has been appointed the new European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) Chief Editor. Professor Chalmers is currently British Lung Foundation Chair of Respiratory Research at the University of Dundee (UK) and Honorary Consultant Respiratory Physician at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. He brings a wealth of experience to the role of Chief Editor, including extensive clinical and translational research and considerable editorial experience, having served as Deputy Editor of the ERJ. He commented: "I am honoured and delighted to have the opportunity to lead the ERJ [...] my goal is to ensure it serves the needs of the Society and the scientific community by publishing the very best clinical, translational and experimental science." He will commence his 5-year mandate in September 2022.
