Irritants and airborne pollutants in adult asthma

Medical education is generally deficient in teaching environmental and occupational determinants of human health in general, and respiratory health in particular. And yet the impact of these factors on respiratory health is increasingly evident and pressing, given recent environmental disasters. On 26 October, ERS will hold a panel discussion that will consider the incontrovertible contribution of irritants and allergens in the environment and the workplace, to the causation, aggravation, and perpetuation of asthma throughout the world.

Novel advances in the diagnosis of ILDs

On 12 October, a joint ERS–ALAT webinar will look at novel advances in the diagnosis of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). The webinar will cover the importance of the usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern, the role of cryobiopsy in the diagnosis of fibrotic ILD, and genomic classifiers as a diagnostic tool to identify the UIP pattern in clinical practice.
