Respiratory oscillometry in paediatric applications
On 9 April, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the Pan Africa Thoracic Society (PATS) will hold a joint webinar on respiratory oscillometry in paediatric applications. Chaired by Professor Refiloe Masekela, Dr Anna Lavizzari and Dr Emanuela Zannin, the webinar will cover: measurement apparatus; input signal; results reporting; reference values; clinical significance in different paediatric lung diseases; respiratory oscillometry for bronchodilator response testing; and respiratory oscillometry for bronchial challenge testing.

Community engagement in TB action
On 28 March, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) will hold a webinar on community engagement in TB action. The webinar will be divided into two parts: the first half will feature lectures given by the speakers, Dr Paul Sommerfeld and Dr Lucica Ditiu; the second half will feature an open discussion, moderated by the Chairs, Professor Christoph Lange and Professor Raquel Duarte, giving the opportunity for participants to share perspectives on the topics presented and/or pose questions to the speakers.

In memory of Professor Tobias Welte
The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague Professor Tobias Welte on 9 March 2024. Tobias was a true member of the ERS family – contributing to the Society from its inception in many important roles, including ERS President, ERS Monograph Chief Editor, and long-serving member of the European Respiratory Journal and European Respiratory Review editorial boards. He was a great man, he had a clear vision and he gave so very much to respiratory medicine. May he rest in peace.

ERS Clinical Practice Guideline on palliative care for COPD or ILD
The European Respiratory Society (ERS) recently brought together an expert panel to discuss the ERS Guideline: "Palliative care for people with chronic obstructive lung disease or interstitial lung disease". The webinar covered topics such as: what palliative care is; when to start palliative care; the use of advance care planning in COPD and ILD; informal caregiver involvement; and how to implement a palliative care approach for people with severe COPD or ILD.

Update on lung cancer screening in Europe

ERJ Open Research seeking high-quality papers on chronic cough
In response to the continued challenge posed by chronic cough, ERJ Open Research is calling for new submissions relating to this field, particularly those addressing novel mechanisms and treatments of chronic refractory cough. Preference will be given to papers that are clinical trials, provide mechanistic insights or offer new knowledge on management, with fast-track peer review and publication for suitable papers. The deadline for submission is 31 March 2024.
