The mortality rate of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is on the rise across Europe. Considerable differences exist among countries. Currently, more than 17,000 deaths from IPF are recorded each year in Europe, with a high probability of underestimation.

ERJ Editors' choice

The Chief Editors of the European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) have selected their highlights from the August issue. Their selection includes original articles on the titration of anti-IL-5 biologics in severe asthma, and the relation of airway IL-1beta to disease severity and mucociliary function in bronchietasis. They also highlight the European Respiratory Society statement on transition of care in childhood interstitial lung diseases.

ERS Early Career Editorial Team mentoring programme open to applications

The European Respiratory Journal, European Respiratory Review and ERJ Open Research are currently inviting applications for the Early Career Editorial Team mentoring programme. The programme will run for 2 years from November 2024 to the end of October 2026 and aims to provide researchers in the field of respiratory medicine with experience of editorial board work and increase engagement in scientific and medical publishing.
