ERJ highlight: sleep apnoea and the HPA axis

The February issue of the European Respiratory Journal features an interesting study on the association of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis. Whilst previous studies on the association between OSA and HPA have been inconsistent, this study suggests that sleep apnoea in nonobese men and slightly obese women may be connected with HPA axis activation.
