Current situation and therapeutic perspectives in cystic fibrosis

A recent ERS Vision Live panel discussion focused on the current situation and therapeutic perspectives in cystic fibrosis. In a discussion chaired by Dr Eva Polverino and Mr Dimitris Kontopidis, expert panellists considered new therapies, strategies for infection management and new approaches to the management of adult cystic fibrosis patients.

ERJ: pick of the week

In patients with interstitial lung disease, rituximab plus mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is associated with benefits in lung function and progression-free survival compared with MMF plus placebo after 24 weeks of treatment. Clean Air in Europe for All

The European Respiratory Society (ERS), the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) and the Health Effects Institute (HEI) recently held Clear Air in Europe for All – a one-day conference focused on air pollution. International experts, policy makers, scientists and other key stakeholders gathered together to call for immediate and decisive action to tackle air quality in Europe. Topics discussed included: the recently proposed revision to the EU Ambient Air Quality Directive (AAQD); the remaining challenges; and additional policy options.

Neonatal interstitial lung disease

Childhood interstitial lung disease (chILD) is a heterogeneous group of rare respiratory disorders with high morbidity and mortality. As ILD before 2 years of age is very rare, centres encounter a limited number of patients per year. On 20 June, a joint European Respiratory Society (ERS)/European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR) webinar will discuss the optimal management of this condition.

Exacerbations in COPD

On 19 June, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) will hold a panel discussion on exacerbations in COPD.
